It can be a constant source of worry and concern, along with the stigma associated with the problem. Even your best friend won’t tell you if you have offensive breath. So what can you do about this very common issue? Try these.

Five Solutions to Help Prevent Bad Breath

  1. Change a personal habit. Did you know that using tobacco and drinking alcohol are both known to cause bad breath? If you need another reason to quit, do it now. When you do, the chances of reducing breath odor increases. Eating strong foods like cheese or onions can also contribute to the problem.
  2. Control dry mouth. Certain drugs or persistent medical conditions may cause dry mouth. Without adequate saliva flow, bacteria can multiply in the mouth, resulting in unpleasant odors. As a remedy, try drinking plenty of water or chewing Xylitol gum to stimulate saliva production.
  3. Treat your tongue. Another source of bad breath is your tongue. Over time, bacteria and food debris develops on the rough surface of the tongue, and as it decays, it can be a source of odor. The best remedy is to use a tongue scraper made specifically for this job. A toothbrush just won’t do the trick, and those breath mints are just a cover up that masks the problem.
  4. Get a professional cleaning. If it’s been a while since you’ve visited the dentist, it may be time to schedule an appointment. Intermittent dental visits are a big culprit of bacteria build-up that can cause odor. I can remove the hardened layers of bacteria-laden biofilm to help reduce the cause of bad breath.
  5. Improve your oral hygiene. On a day-to-day basis, it’s up to you to keep the bacteria in your mouth under control and to keep your breath smelling fresh. That means proper brushing, flossing, and using a mouth rinse every day.

Dr Zanni and his team always take care of me, they really do go above and beyond. Switching to them a couple years ago was the best decision I could've made for my teeth. They fixed me up and also created a long term plan including teeth whitening and preventive measures. A painless experience, I highly recommend.
